South Australia's premier shopping destination, Rundle Mall, is now home to Salvador Dali's monumental sculpture 'Triumphant Elephant'. The iconic Dali masterpeice will stand 7 meters tall in the heart of the Adelaide CBD for the next 12 months.
The Eléphant de triomphe is one of Salvador Dalí's most iconic monumental sculptures and is one of only eight to have been cast in this size. Standing nearly seven meters tall, the towering Triumphant Elephant is an iconic form within the oeuvre of Salvador Dalí and Surrealist art.
The spider-legged elephant image, was made famous in Dalí’s 1946 oil on canvas painting The Temptation of St. Anthony and in his 1944 painting Dream Caused by the Flight of a Bee around a Pomegranate a Second Before Awakening.
It is depicted atop spiderlike legs, emphasizing the contrast between robustness and fragility, much like the contrast between the past and modernity. Here, the majestic animal's bejewelled saddle symbolizes wealth, and the dawn of a new era is announced by a flying angel, trumpeting success and prosperity.
EXHIBITION AT RUNDLE MALL, ADELAIDE CBD
Art Evolution.com is a global, technology driven, online marketing and publishing company offering one of the largest curated art selections in the world. Since collaborating with the Dali Universe to tour the exhibition throughout Australasia we have chosen to exhibit in Iconic locations that are not only accessible but add another dimension to the display. We are not overly interested in replicating the traditional art gallery environment. Our approach is that the exhibition has to be completely experiential and the d’Arenberg Cube is about as surreal as it gets.
