The Wine families
"This admirable portfolio, made by the multi-talented Chester Osborn includes brilliant quality at the top, very fine wines in the mid-range, and terrific values at the bottom. d'Arenberg also does as well with whites as with reds, and produces a bevy of impressive fortifieds."
- Robert Parker Junior. The Wine Advocate.
THE STUMPIES

This fun and engaging set are the perfect introduction to the d'Arenberg range and are perfect every-day wines. These wines are made to compliment a myriad of food styles and any occasion.
The label design reflects the humour of the d'Arenberg brand. It was inspired by an optometrist’s eye chart. Test your own sight by holding the bottle at arm’s length. Can you read the bottom line? If so, reward yourself with another glass.
These wines are best drunk young and with good company.
THE MUSKETEERS WHITE

The fairer quartet and suitable siblings of the four red musketeers, these whites are seen in fridges and wine bars across the globe. Each feature the square label design that matches the Footbolt and friends, and they too regularly recieve praise from consumers and wine writers alike for their great value for money.
A racy riesling. A vibrant sauvignon blanc. A fruit driven, Aussie style Chardonnay. An intriguing introduction to Rhone blends. Each has its own unique personality while being true to the d'Arenberg style and all work wonderfully with food.
THE MUSKETEERS RED
One for all and all for one! This quartet of wines is the ‘backbone’ of the d'Arenberg range. They date back to the early 60's when d'Arry first released wines under the red stripe label. Sure they've had a few label design tweaks since then, and the d'Arry's Original is no longer allowed to be called 'Burgundy' but essentially these wines are the heart of d'Arenberg, past and present. They are true to their region, show varietal typicity and regularly feature on 'best value' wine lists around the world. Why 'four musketeers' well, it’s a d'Arenberg quirk... originally it was the three musketeers but then Chester's love affair with Grenache reached new heights in the 1990's and along came The Custodian.
THE HILLBILLIES
Despite their name there is nothing unruly about this fine pair. These super premium, single variety wines are sourced entirely from the Adelaide Hills region due to its exceptional growing conditions. Higher altitude and cooler temperatures clearly suit these two varieties and we are fortunate to be able to source from growers on some of the very best plots of this region. There is a strong Burgundian inspiration in the style of these wines, and as such, an old world label design was deemed appropriate. They are very approachable young but also have the potential to evolve with time in bottle.
CHESTER'S CHAMPIONS (WHITE)
These wines represent d’Arenberg’s continued advances into white Rhône varietal territory. Immense success with Grenache, Shiraz and Mourvedre , the vinous siblings of these Great White Hopes, encouraged d’Arenberg to invest in plantings of the white Rhones;Viognier, Roussanne and Marsanne. Ongoing work and experimentation in the vineyard and cellars are extremely encouraging, and some excellent results at various wine shows worldwide have confirmed what d’Arenberg always suspected – that McLaren Vale is a tremendous region for Viognier, Roussanne and Marsanne.
CHESTER'S CHAMPIONS (RED)
These super premium offerings are clearly stamped with Chester's signature. While the musketeers pay homage to his father and the winery's past, these wines are indicative of Chester's strengths as a viticulturist and blender and the future for d’Arenberg. They are louder, more fragrant and varietal distinct wines that express the soil and growing conditions of each vineyard plot. More time in small oak barriques gives these wines structure and weight with fragrant fruit tannins also playing a starring role.
These champion's of the d'Arenberg range drink well on release but will reward careful cellaring for 5-10 years.

THE ICONS
The ‘Icon’ wines are our biggest and most ‘serious’’ wines here at d’Arenberg. The Dead Arm Shiraz, The Coppermine Road and The Ironstone Pressings are our ‘Big Three’, which represent the pinnacle of d’Arenberg’s efforts in McLaren Vale, both in the vineyard and the winery.
The notion of separately vinifying and bottling the very best Shiraz, Cabernet and Grenache/ Shiraz/ Mourvèdre blend each vintage stems from the mid 1980's.
The ‘Icons’ are the product of a complex array of ingredients; very old and low yielding vines (sometimes only a quarter of a tonne per acre), age-old winemaking techniques and rigorous barrel selection, where only the very best barrels are used, and a complete and thorough understanding of the vines and country from which we use only the very best grapes. The wines made from these McLaren Vale grapes are powerful, complex, concentrated yet perfectly balanced.
The ‘Icons’ show restraint when young (even though the wines are massive) and have a great capacity for longevity – these wines will last a lifetime. Great vintages of the Icons should be drinking well for many years to come.
AMAZING SITES
Every vineyard is unique. The soil, underlying geology, altitude, proximity to the ocean, age of the vines and the techniques used by the grape-grower all influence the flavours in the grapes and the resulting wines. In the hands of a skilled and dedicated winemaker, single vineyard wines capture the essence of a unique patch of dirt and speak volumes of the site and vintage.
An intimate understanding of McLaren Vale’s many soil types, the underlying geology and their influence on different grape varieties is one of Chester Osborn’s most defining attributes as a winemaker. As a fourth generation vigneron Chester has a well of knowledge to draw from, but it’s his dedication to minimal intervention in the vineyard (no fertiliser, no soil cultivation, no herbicides) and his insistence on small batches that has allowed him gain a rare insight over a long career.
SWEET, BUBBLY OR FORTIFIED
The finer things in life!
No brunch is complete without a sparkling red to kick off proceedings and a decadent dessert without a sticky botrytis wine feels half-done. Similarly a warming glass of fortified in front of the fire on a cold winter's night is hard to beat.
d'Arenberg's range of stickies and fortifieds have always been extremely well received by both show judges and wine writers around the globe. They are the perfect gift or can be that special something to make a great meal truly memorable.
