2012 The Dry Dam Riesling
100% McLaren Vale Riesling
The Story Behind The Name
In 1992 our neighbours built a dam in which no water lay, as it was dry winter. The next year it rained but the dam was jinxed and didn’t hold water. We still hold the blame. Some people mix the name around, calling the wine ‘The Dam Dry Riesling’, which in some years is truer than others.
The Characteristics
On the nose this wine is incredibly perfumed with inviting characters of frangipanis, fresh crushed petals, pure fresh sherbet and lime aromatics in the background.
The palate sees the floral characters joined by citrus fruits like mandarin and lime sherbet while green stone fruits of pear and apple also appear. The balance of sweetness and acidity in this wine is a delight.
There is a secondary layer beginning to emerge with wet pebble stones and a slate like character that is expected to become more prominent as the wine ages.
