Visiting McLaren Vale

Food for thought

As well as producing fantastic wines, the McLaren Vale region is well known for its bevy of talented artisan food producers and passionate individuals to make your trip even more memorable. These producers include; olives, olive oils, vinegars, cheeses, almonds, marron (freshwater crayfish), venison, fruits, herbs and flowers. If tasting the goods leaves you curious for more and you are keen to testing out your skills you can book cooking classes and cheese making classes at both Chapel Hill Retreat and Producers or the Blending Bench here at d’Arenberg to make your own Dead Arm Shiraz!

Our Cellar Door at d’Arenberg sells some of the locally produced goodies including, home roasted spices, almonds and d'Arenberg wine-infused chocolate truffles. However to fully immerse yourself in the culture and our passion for flavour we recommend The Willunga Farmer's Market, held every Saturday in the heart of Willunga, you will run into lots of the locals, chefs, winemakers and the friendly cellar door staff, all topping up on the amazing produce!

The Beaches

If there is any guilt generated as a result of your d’Arenberg and McLaren Vale indulgence, you can walk off the excesses at one of the region’s fantastic beaches – just ask the team at Cellar Door and they will give you our local tourist map and send you off in the right direction for a swim and some exercise. The local beaches are some of the cleanest and most beautiful in Australia and the proximity McLaren Vale not only helps with the grape growing but also will enhance your visit just that little bit more. You won’t want to leave!
