d'Arenberg named Most Successful Exhibitor at Mediterranean Wine Challenge, RASQ 2012
d’Arenberg has been named the Most Successful Exhibitor at the 2012 Royal Agricultural Society of Queensland (RASQ) Wine Show, picking up three trophies, three ‘best of class’ awards and twelve medals. The results were announced over the weekend in Toowoomba.
The show, which has been running for over 10 years, is particularly focused on the wine grape varieties with origins around the Mediterranean countries. d’Arenberg produces over 60 wines with a strong emphasis on such varieties. South Australia’s McLaren Vale, home to d’Arenberg for 100 years, has a climate well suited for these varieties as indicated by the strong results at the show.
The Most Successful Exhibitor was calculated on the highest score achieved by a winery, that entered at least three different wines across three different classes and achieved the highest score on the basis that a Gold Medal = 5 points, Silver Medal = 3 points and Bronze Medal = 1 point
Fourth generation family member and Chief Winemaker, Chester Osborn, was delighted with the news which he received while travelling in the USA as part of the winery’s 100 year birthday celebration;
Great news to receive from Oz. I’m currently at a Boston Red Sox match watching Big Papi knocking home runs. It’s great to see our wines hitting winners too. Especially the newer varietals like Tempranillo Roussanne and Viognier. I’ve always had faith in these varieties and believe they are very well-suited to the McLaren Vale region but it’s always nice to get the nod from the judges.
